The goal is to create a clean and simple backdrop for your design. Using mostly neutral and bright furniture like these cot, chair and pouf; featuring natural or white woods and light-coloured fabrics. Pass on cheap, plastic playthings in favour of toys that encourage imaginative play, and keep your little one’s wardrobe to a minimum.

Furniture with wheels is always a sensible choice, allowing you to move and rearrange things as needed.  When choosing it, opt for multifunctional pieces, such as cribs that transform into toddler beds and seating with built-in storage, as well as beautiful wall art for your little ones.

Natural textiles and rustic woods dominate Nordic living spaces, and children’s rooms often have natural themes, featuring trees, flowers, and lots of furry, woodland friends. Instead of storing dozens of dusty books on bookshelves, try displaying your little one’s latest library haul on slim, easily accessible book ledges.

A mural, a wallpapered accent wall, or a poster is another excellent way to inject a little colour into your design. Keep things simple with one or two bold accent colours, or introduce an entire family of primary or soft pastel hues. Cut the clutter, and take the less-is-more approach.

Use graphic prints and simple patterns liberally, and don’t be afraid to mix and match. Featuring geometric shapes and kid-friendly icons like stars, hearts, and animals are most definitely Scandinavian-chic. Kids don’t need a lot of stuff to be happy.
